Bernadine Chuck Fong, Ph.D.
President Emerita
Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, California

Bernadine Chuck Fong is president emerita of Foothill College and visiting scholar at Stanford University, where she received her bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. degrees, and served on its Board of Trustees. Her research interests include academic leadership, organizational development, and the impact of educational technology on student learning outcomes.

Under her leadership, Foothill was focused on improving student learning by better understanding how they learn. Factors that affect teaching and learning, such as diversity, neurological development of the brain, individual learning processes, and socioeconomic and cultural factors related to the achievement gap, were major institutional initiatives.

Fong created a culture and established a college vision, including core values, which served as the foundation for institutional focus on students; developed a series of interrelated topics which moved the college from being individual-centered to college-centered to college-student-centered; and provided the foundation (biological, psychological, and educational) for better understanding of learning and improving student performance and learning outcomes.
